New GTLD Report
On 4th February 2014 the new gTLDs .xn--ngbc5azd launched general availability, this was quickly followed by .bike, .clothing, .guru, .holdings, .plumbing, .singles and .ventures on the 5th February 2014.
The 7 days of Donuts early access program hasn’t been used extensively and even after the initial drop after the first day of general availability (inflated due to pre-registrations) the majority of the new gTLDs have seen a downward trend in daily registrations levelling off except for .xn--ngbc5azd which attracted no new registrations on day 5.
The United States is the dominant registrant location with 49% of new gTLD registrations (this may be inflated due to proxy/privacy services) with 129 countries in total.
So far 74 registrars have domains listed in the new gTLD zones. Godaddy Llc is the clear leader with 45% of registrants with the rest of the top 10 registrars being no surprise.
Single year registration seems to be the popular option with 97% of registrants opting for it with 2 year registrations being used by only 3% of registrations.
27 domains are currently using DNSSEC although 26 of these are registered by the registries. The only “real” DNSSEC enabled new gTLD domain is currently dnssec.guru.
.guru is the most popular new gTLD so far with over 23,000 domains registered, of the others only .bike and .clothing have been able to attract more than 5000 registrations.
Information is based on all domains with nameservers listed in the zones on 2014-02-09.
